Rana ridibunda – Marsh frog

The distribution range of the species covers Central and Eastern Europe, including the Balkan Peninsula. This frog is closely associated with standing and poorly running waters, overgrown with rich aquatic vegetation. It is usually a social, daily and aquatic species, but can also be active overnight, especially in the more southerly parts of its distribution range. The mating season lasts from April to May. The marsh frog hibernates in aquatic biotopes. In the NPG, the marsh frog is very abundant in the Ohrid and Prespa lakes, in the swampy area beside the lakes and semi-temperate puddles.
