The alpine or mountain saxifrage is a perennial plant belonging to the Saxifragaceae family. The roots form stolons, the flowers are white with red spots, and the red stems grow to 30 cm. It blooms from June to August, and it is interesting that this species self-pollinates. Characteristic are the leathery leaves joined in a rosette. They are sharp and resistant to drought. It is widespread in Europe, Asia, and North America. In the Galichica National Park, it is found on carbonate rocks 1600 meters above sea level.
