The spring gentian is one of the lowest growing species of the Gentianaceae family which grows up to several centimetres. The low stalk turns into a flower formed of 5 lanceolate blue-purple petals blooming from spring to early summer. This relict species is variable and occurs in many subspecies and varieties. It is widespread in Europe and Asia, and in the Galichica National Park, it is found on high mountain pastures.
